Role Overview
This position works directly with program participants in the field, delivering hands-on business training and coaching focused on livestock and agricultural enterprises. The coach helps individuals build sustainable businesses by guiding them through the REAP graduation model, facilitating access to finance and markets, and overseeing the proper use of challenge grants. The role is central to enabling young women and men in ASAL regions to create their own dignified livelihoods and strengthen household resilience.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and enrol participants using established criteria, ensuring inclusive and equitable selection.
- Deliver gender-responsive training and mentorship aligned with the REAP graduation model, building strong enterprises in livestock and agri-value chains.
- Facilitate formation of community-based groups such as business cooperatives, livestock aggregation groups, village savings and loan associations (VSLAs), and value-chain clusters.
- Coach participants to identify, launch, and run profitable businesses, providing ongoing support to overcome operational challenges.
- Collaborate with county governments, research institutions, TVETs, and private sector actors to unlock market opportunities, skills development, and employment pathways for participants.
- Conduct monthly group mentorship sessions and facilitate linkages to financial services, markets, and government programmes.
- Guide participants in developing solid business plans and applying for challenge fund grants, then monitor grant utilisation for intended business growth.
- Deliver monthly micro-training sessions on topics such as financial literacy, life skills, and market entry strategies as per the project schedule.
- Collect and report data in line with the monitoring and evaluation plan, ensuring data integrity, tracking key performance indicators, and documenting success stories and lessons learned.
- Maintain all assigned tools, tablets, and motorcycles in good working condition, and submit fuel logs and repair requests on time.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Degree in Business, Commerce, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Agriculture, or Livestock.
- 3–5 years of experience working with young women and men, SMEs, and markets, especially within livestock and agri-value chains in ASAL regions.
- Proven track record in delivering business development services (BDS) and fostering inclusive business growth in arid and semi-arid contexts.
- Strong mentorship and coaching skills, with the ability to translate technical strategies into practical enterprise improvements.
- Understanding of market trends and strategies for micro-enterprise startups entering competitive markets.
- Experience in data collection, entry, and analysis, with the ability to draw actionable insights for decision-making.
- Valid motorcycle licence (A1/A2) and demonstrable riding experience.
- Excellent interpersonal skills: communication, empathy, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and collaboration.
- Basic proficiency in mobile data collection and Microsoft Office; self-driven and able to work with minimal supervision. Salesforce experience is an added advantage.
- Must be a resident of the county where the CASHA programme is implemented.
