In the past few weeks, Iโve applied for role after role across Seek, Indeed, and other job boards. Dozens of applications sent, tailored resumes and cover letters written and yet, Iโve only secured one interview.
Most applications get no response at all. Others end in an instant auto-decline, without so much as a phone call or a chance to have a conversation about my skills and experience.
Itโs hard not to feel deflated. You start to question yourself, even when you know you have the capability and track record to add real value.
I know Iโm not the only one feeling this. Job seeking in the current market is more competitive than ever, and it can take a real toll on your confidence.
For anyone else in the same boat โ keep going. The right opportunity is out there, even if the path to finding it feels longer than it should.
And if youโre a hiring manager or recruiter reading this, I encourage you to remember the human side of the process. A simple conversation can go a long way. less

1) You WILL find a lot of recruiters who will ghost you after the first call. Because, they don't have the guts to say that your profile is not the right fit & I am sorry for wasting your time so far!
2) You WILL find a lot of organizations which are figuring out what is the right path for themselves. So, they post a JD, give an offer, and go back on it.
3) You WILL face a lot of asshole interviewers. Who just want to pull you down & satisfy their own ego. They don't know that, there are no job guarantees (including theirs).
4) And this entire process WILL demotivate you without any mistake of yours.

Please remember that behind every resume is a person with dreams, potential, and a willingness to learn. A single missing skill or imperfect experience shouldnโt overshadow someoneโs dedication or passion.
Resumes are important, but they donโt always capture the whole story. Sometimes the best candidates are hidden behind humble CVs. On the other hand, even the most polished resumes donโt guarantee the right mindset or attitude for growth.
Take a moment to connect, talk, or interview. You might discover an amazing talent waiting for a chance. Letโs give opportunities to those who are eager to prove themselvesโyou may be surprised by what they bring to the table.

I work in HR in the UAE, and I see this happen all the time. Good candidates come for interviews but can't speak English well. They get nervous and can't show their real skills.
The funny thing is - many of these people become our best workers later. But we also hire people who speak great English in interviews, then they don't do well at work.
Yes, communication is important for most jobs. But we're in the UAE - people come from everywhere. Just because someone has an accent or takes time to think doesn't mean they're not good at their job.
I think we need to look deeper. Real skills matter more than perfect English in an interview.

If you're new to the UAE and currently exploring job opportunities, hereโs a sincere piece of advice based on personal experience living here:
One of the key challenges many newcomers face is that work experience from their home country is often not fully recognized or valued in the local market. In the UAE, local experience and familiarity with the business culture are highly regarded by employers.
You might be wondering: "How can I gain local experience if no one is willing to hire someone new to the country?"
This is the real challenge. To overcome it, you may need to accept roles that are initially below your qualifications or salary expectations. It may not be ideal, but itโs a strategic entry point. Once you gain UAE experience, even in a supporting or junior role, your profile will become significantly more competitive.
Getting involved in the local work environment, understanding the culture, and building a professional network will open doors for better opportunities in the future. Being flexible and persistent during your initial phase is essential.
Itโs just a humble tip ๐
Wishing you all the success in your job search journey here in the UAE!

Dear HR, No one is perfect. Stop looking for the perfect candidate. Give them a chance; skills can be taught, but potential is priceless.
A candidateโs true value goes beyond whatโs on their resume. Passion, commitment, and willingness to grow are qualities that canโt always be measured. less
