Spotify has officially rolled out its beta music videos feature to Premium subscribers in the US and Canada, more than a year after it debuted in other regions. Users can now switch seamlessly between audio and video on supported tracks across iOS, Android, desktop, and TV apps. This long-awaited launch answers one of the most common questions from Spotify fans: when will music videos come to North America?
With the new “Switch to video” button, Spotify allows listeners to toggle between traditional audio playback and the artist’s official music video. Tapping the button starts the video at the exact point where the audio left off, while returning to audio-only hides the video and continues playing the track. This interactive experience mirrors the convenience of platforms like YouTube, but stays within the Spotify ecosystem.
Currently, the feature is available for select artists, including Ariana Grande, Olivia Dean, Babymonster, Addison Rae, Tyler Childers, Natanael Cano, and Carín León. Spotify plans to expand the library over time, but for now, users can explore music videos from some of today’s biggest names in pop, indie, and Latin music.
When in video mode, the usual “Lyrics” section is replaced with a “Related Music Videos” feed. This section allows users to browse additional official videos, providing a mini-discovery hub within the app. The feature encourages viewers to explore content curated directly by artists rather than algorithm-driven recommendations, giving Spotify a unique edge over competitors.
The music video feature is accessible on all major Spotify apps, including smartphones, desktops, and smart TVs. This cross-device support ensures users can enjoy a continuous viewing experience at home or on the go. Spotify Premium subscribers should see the “Switch to video” option appear automatically on supported tracks.
The addition of music videos signals Spotify’s push to expand beyond audio streaming. It’s a strategic move to compete more directly with video-centric platforms and social media apps, while keeping Premium subscribers engaged within its ecosystem. Users who love discovering music visually now have a reason to stay and explore longer.
Although still in beta, Spotify plans to broaden its music video offerings and improve the user interface. Fans can expect more artist participation, enhanced recommendations, and smoother transitions between audio and video. As Spotify continues to innovate, music videos may become a core part of its streaming identity in the US and Canada.
