Samsung trifold phone design leak hints at next-gen foldable
Samsung may have just revealed its upcoming trifold phone design by accident. Spotted in the latest One UI 8 beta update, animations suggest the new device—possibly named the Galaxy G Fold or Multifold 7—will feature a dual-hinge, triple-screen layout. This foldable phone aims to rival Huawei’s Mate XT Ultimate Design and could be officially unveiled during Samsung’s Unpacked event on July 9. If you're searching for what Samsung’s next foldable looks like or how it folds, here's everything we know so far.
Trifold phone design shows dual hinges and triple-camera layout
The leaked design includes three display panels connected by two hinges. When fully unfolded, one panel acts as a cover screen with a front-facing camera, while the rear of the device holds a large triple-camera array. The NFC chip is also embedded into the same right-hand panel. Unlike Huawei’s Z-shaped folding Mate XT, Samsung’s version folds inward, with animations showing that users must close the left-hand panel first to avoid damaging the camera.
Samsung’s trifold takes a different approach than Huawei
Huawei’s Mate XT lets users operate one, two, or all three screens thanks to its flexible Z-fold. However, that design leaves a portion of the display exposed, making it more susceptible to wear and tear. Samsung’s trifold phone seems to prioritize protection by folding inwards, even if that limits display versatility. Based on the UI animations, the left panel folds first, followed by the right panel wrapping over the top—ensuring the device closes securely.
What to expect at Samsung Unpacked 2025
While nothing is official yet, Samsung may reveal the trifold foldable at its Unpacked event on July 9, alongside updates to the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series. If the leaks are accurate, the Galaxy G Fold (or Multifold 7) marks Samsung’s entry into the premium trifold market. Whether it can beat Huawei’s innovative folding tech remains to be seen, but this design could set a new standard for multitasking and productivity on the go.
