Less than 48 hours after launching ChatGPT Atlas, OpenAI is already teasing a string of updates for its AI-powered browser. The company aims to make Atlas a strong contender against Chrome, with new features designed to improve usability and AI integration.
Adam Fry, leader of OpenAI’s Atlas team, announced that “Profiles are coming!” alongside tab groups and an optional ad blocker. These updates are part of a “post-launch fixes” roadmap that Fry shared on X, and most are expected to roll out over the coming weeks, with a few taking slightly longer.
The upcoming Atlas updates include quality-of-life improvements such as an overflow bookmarks menu and a list of shortcuts to streamline browsing. These small tweaks aim to make navigation smoother and more intuitive for users.
OpenAI is also upgrading Atlas’s AI tools. The ChatGPT agent, currently available for Plus and Pro users, will see faster response times, a more reliable pause function, and better integration with Google Drive and Excel in the cloud.
Meanwhile, the Ask ChatGPT sidebar will become easier to use without leaving the browser. Users can select different projects or AI models directly, making multitasking and research simpler than ever.
These updates signal OpenAI’s commitment to creating an AI-powered browser that not only matches but potentially exceeds the functionality of established browsers. With personalized profiles, tab management, and enhanced AI capabilities, Atlas is positioning itself as a serious tool for productivity and research.
OpenAI promises continuous improvements, keeping the browser up-to-date with user needs and industry standards. As features like ad blockers, tab groups, and AI enhancements roll out, Atlas could reshape the way people interact with the web.
