Google Gemini for Home is officially rolling out in the US, marking a major upgrade to the Google smart home ecosystem. Powered by Google’s Gemini AI model, this new assistant will gradually replace Google Assistant on Nest speakers and displays, offering a more conversational, context-aware experience. Unlike the old Assistant, Gemini can handle multi-step commands, integrate better with smart devices, and even understand natural speech in real-time.
If you’re eager to try Gemini for Home early, Google is offering a limited early access program. To sign up, open your Google Groups settings, click on Global Settings, and ensure the option “Add me to their groups” is checked. Then, in the Google Home app, go to your profile picture → Home settings → Early Access, and request to join the Gemini for Home beta. If approved, your Nest devices will automatically update to the new experience.
The shift from Google Assistant to Gemini for Home represents Google’s move toward AI-driven, multimodal assistance. Gemini can process text, voice, and visual input simultaneously — meaning you can ask complex questions like, “Show me the temperature in the living room and turn it down by two degrees.” It’s faster, smarter, and more intuitive, aligning with Google’s broader AI strategy for 2025.
