Disney Plus Is Getting Another Price Hike In October
Disney Plus is getting another price hike, and subscribers will start paying more beginning October 21st. The streaming giant is raising both its ad-supported and Premium no-ads tiers, continuing a trend that has frustrated long-time fans since its 2019 launch.
The ad-supported plan will jump by $2, moving from $9.99 to $11.99 per month. The Premium no-ads plan will see a $3 increase, climbing to $18.99 monthly. Annual Premium subscriptions will also rise by $30, reaching $189.99 a year. Disney’s popular bundles aren’t spared either, with prices increasing across the board. Full details are available on Disney Plus’ official support page.
Why Disney Plus Keeps Raising Prices
When Disney Plus launched in 2019 at just $6.99 a month, it was seen as a budget-friendly alternative to Netflix. But price hikes have now become a yearly tradition. In December 2022, October 2023, and October 2024, the platform announced increases—making this October’s bump the fourth in just three years.
The company says the move is part of its strategy to boost streaming profits. After years of operating at a loss, Disney’s streaming division finally turned a profit last year. Still, many subscribers feel they’re shouldering the cost of Disney’s aggressive push to please investors.
The Timing Couldn’t Be Worse
The latest news that Disney Plus is getting another price hike comes as the company navigates a messy PR crisis. Just last week, Disney pulled Jimmy Kimmel Live! off the air following backlash over the host’s controversial remarks. After six days, Disney reversed course and restored the show, but the damage was done—sparking public outrage and even boycott calls.
Some industry insiders believe Disney rushed Kimmel back onto TV because it knew another round of price increases was coming. Journalist Marisa Kabas reported that a Disney insider suggested the company couldn’t afford another wave of cancellations right before this announcement.
What It Means For Subscribers
For subscribers, the hikes mean paying more for less goodwill from the company. A service that started as a cost-effective way to watch Star Wars, Marvel, and Pixar content now costs nearly triple its original price. While Disney Plus remains a major player in streaming, fans are questioning how much more they’re willing to pay.
Whether you stick with the ad-supported plan, upgrade to Premium, or consider canceling altogether, one thing is clear: Disney Plus is getting another price hike, and it’s testing the limits of subscriber loyalty.
