A Bluesky Server Issue Froze Some Users’ Feeds Earlier
A Bluesky server issue froze some users’ feeds earlier, leaving many unable to view or share new posts for hours. The disruption sparked confusion among users as their timelines stopped refreshing, even though posts appeared to publish normally in some cases.
What Happened To Bluesky Feeds?
Several users, including myself, noticed that the “Following” feed wasn’t updating as expected. Posts that should have appeared in real time were missing for more than two hours. With hundreds of accounts followed, it quickly became clear that this wasn’t normal activity on the platform.
Interestingly, not all users were affected. Some feeds continued to load normally, while others froze entirely, creating an inconsistent experience across the network.
Bluesky’s Response To The Outage
At first, Bluesky’s official service page showed no signs of trouble. But hours later, the platform confirmed the issue, calling it a “network disruption” that caused posts to be delayed. The update assured users that recovery was in progress and that affected posts would eventually appear.
Meanwhile, the AT Protocol developer account — the technology powering Bluesky — posted that “all services should now be recovered,” suggesting the issue had been resolved.
Posts Went Missing, But Not Permanently
During the outage, some posts seemed to disappear. When I shared an article earlier, it looked like it posted, appeared on my profile, and even received a reply notification. However, clicking on the post showed an error saying it couldn’t be found. Hours later, the post resurfaced with a timestamp much later than when I had originally published it.
Other users reported similar glitches, with one even seeing an error message that read: “some kind of issue occurred when contacting the feed server.”
What This Means For Bluesky Users
Bluesky has positioned itself as an alternative to X (formerly Twitter), but outages like this highlight the challenges of running a growing social platform. While the company resolved the problem within a few hours, moments of downtime can shake user trust — especially as Bluesky competes for attention in an already crowded social media landscape.
For now, feeds appear to be back to normal. But the disruption shows that even fast-growing platforms face infrastructure hiccups that can frustrate users when they least expect it.
