According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is actively developing its first pair of smart glasses, with a planned unveiling at WWDC 2027 in June. The key differentiator? A strong emphasis on privacy features that go beyond what current wearable cameras offer. This move positions Apple to directly compete with devices like the Meta Ray-Bans, but with a focus on user data protection.
Gurman reports that Apple is prototyping “a slew of new hardware and software-related privacy features” not seen on existing products. While specific details remain under wraps, Apple's marketing is expected to highlight how these glasses protect users compared to rival smart eyewear.
Beyond privacy, the smart glasses will include standard audio features to compete with existing smart eyewear.
Meta's glasses already offer cameras, speakers, and AI. Apple's edge will be privacy-first design—a key concern for consumers wary of being recorded in public. By limiting or controlling camera functionality, Apple aims to build trust while still delivering useful AI features.
Apple reportedly aims to begin shipping the glasses to customers in late 2027, shortly after the WWDC 2027 announcement. This timeline gives Apple over a year to finalize hardware and software, refine privacy features, and prepare manufacturing.
Stay tuned as Apple continues to develop what could be the most privacy-conscious smart glasses on the market, setting a new standard for wearable tech.
