The behavior extends into personal spaces. Employees report checking email in bed, in the bathroom, and even while driving. This constant cognitive tethering prevents full recovery. The impact doesn’t stop at the office door. A survey by Tawkify of 1,003 Americans in committed relationships found that 53% hide or downplay work stress to protect their partner. Nearly half become irritable or emotionally distant due to job pressure.
Work stress is now cited as the biggest source of tension at home by 43% of respondents. Research published in the American Journal of Family Therapy supports these findings, linking chronic overwork to emotional withdrawal and long-term relational strain. Toxic success travels.
