Qualification
Must have:
- Bachelor of Science in a relevant field i.e Analytic Chemistry, Applied Biology, Science Laboratory
- Prior experience in a Tertiary Learning Institution
- Diploma in Analytic Chemistry, Applied Biology, Science Laboratory will be an added advantage
- Be computer literate
- Have a good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Have at least 3 years of working experience in a Laboratory
Key responsibilities also include
Reporting to: Deputy Director, Academic and Research Affairs
Duties and responsibilities:
- Assist Senior Technologist in day-to-day activities of the Laboratories
- Liaising with academic staff to discuss timetables, equipment requirements and work plans;
- Running trials of experiments prior to Practical sessions and then demonstrating techniques for experiments;
- Preparing equipment and chemicals before practical sessions
- Maintaining/custodian of equipment and laboratory apparatus in the assigned laboratory(ies)
- Maintain laboratory equipment and facilities through performing operator maintenance, and schedules annual and any other regular maintenance as required per manufacturer and/or governing statue.
- Record keeping e.g. For students’ practical sessions, tracking methods, results, etc.;
- Ensuring that equipment and Laboratories are properly cleaned and that chemical, drugs and other material are appropriately stored
- Cataloguing recordings and making them available when requested
- Supporting the work of lecturers in laboratory sessions and giving technical advice to staff and students
- Report any failure/breakdown of equipment to the Senior Technologist
- Working with individual students and supporting them on research projects
- Managing the stock control of chemicals and equipment
- Contributing to high-level research.
