Being unemployed is one of the hardest full-time jobs no one talks about.

You wake up every day with the same question:
“Will today finally be the day?”

You send out 50 applications, knowing most will disappear into the void.
You battle imposter syndrome at 9 AM, rejection at 2 PM, and silence by 6 PM.

And on top of that, you deal with:
    — Fake job postings
    — Ghosting
    — “Entry-level” roles asking for 10 years of experience at beginner pay

    Unemployment isn’t a break.
It’s a battlefield—no map, no timeline, no guarantees.

The least we can do is be human.

If someone asks for help—offer it.
If they need a referral—give it.
    If they’re confused—guide them.

A small gesture can change someone’s entire career trajectory.

And one day, it might be us on the other side of the screen, hoping someone cares enough to help. 🤍

If you get nervous during interviews, here’s a hack that worked for me (and helped me land offers from Meta, Salesforce, and Google)

Before each interview, I used to create a little cheat sheet that contained 5-6 stories I could speak to in my interview.

I liked this number because it offered a range of responses without being too difficult to remember and keep straight during my interviews.

Before my interviews started, I would go over these examples in my head over and over.

Having stories ready to go that I could pull from always helped me feel more prepared and confident than trying to think of answers on the spot.

A few tips that worked for me:

    - To understand what stories to even use, I would read the job description and come up with an example for each bullet point or minimum qualification listed.

    - For in person interviews, I would save my answers on my phone and review them one last time while waiting in the lobby, which helped me feel prepared.

    - For virtual interviews, I would write out my main topics on a sticky note that I stuck to the side of my laptop. If I froze in the middle of an answer, I would glance over at my prompts to help me get back on track.

    - I would recite my answers out loud. It can feel awkward at first but hearing yourself speak out loud can really help you refine your responses.

What strategies do you use to ease your nerves and prepare before an interview?

    -

Companies need to recognize that they are overcomplicating the process. No one wants to spend 30 minutes filling out forms to repeat information already included in their resume.

Adding unnecessary steps only wastes time and demonstrates a lack of efficiency.

To filter out unsuitable candidates, simply review the CV submitted.

Making the process more difficult does not attract better candidates; it only discourages them.  less

You've sent 50 applications this month.
Maybe 5 responses. One interview. Zero offers.

Each application feels like shouting into the void.

    Tailoring resumes at midnight.

Writing cover letters that sound enthusiastic when you're running on fumes.

Refreshing your email every 20 minutes.

The rejection emails hurt. The silence hurts more.

Here's what I wish someone told me earlier:

Your worth isn't measured by response rates.

The system is broken, not you.

    Companies are overwhelmed.

    ATS systems are brutal.

Sometimes great candidates get lost in the noise.

    What helps:

Apply to fewer jobs, but better fits

Build connections before you need them

    Take actual breaks

Remember the "no" you got yesterday has zero impact on tomorrow's "yes"

To everyone in the thick of it right now: I see you. This part is hard. You're not alone.

What's one thing that's helped you stay sane during your job search?

    It’s exhausting.

Here’s the truth: most of us will experience this at some point in our careers.
So when someone reaches out for a referral, advice, or even just clarity — empathy costs nothing, but it can mean everything.

If you’re in a position to help:
    • Share guidance
    • Pass along opportunities
    • And please — don’t disappear

A simple “yes” or “no” brings more peace than silence ever will.
    Let’s make careers kinder.

    Dear Hiring Teams,

Please stop expecting 3–5 years of experience from 20-year-olds applying for entry-level roles. Instead, ask about our curiosity, our hunger to grow, and what genuinely excites us about your company. Hire for attitude, drive, and the willingness to learn because skills can be trained, but character is much harder to build.

The leaders you’re looking for might already be here, just waiting for an opportunity. Give someone a chance. After all, someone once gave you yours.

    Sincerely,
Every 20-year-old still believing in opportunity

Almost every job vacancy asks for “UAE experience.”
    But the real question is:
How can we gain UAE experience if we are never given the first opportunity?
    We want to work.
    We want to learn.
    We want to grow.
UAE experience doesn’t start magically, it starts when a company decides to give a fresher a chance.
    Skills can be taught.
    Systems can be learned.
But what truly matters : attitude, dedication, and the willingness to improve cannot be taught easily.
One opportunity is all it takes to begin a professional journey in the UAE.

To all hiring managers and companies:
    Fresh talent is ready.
All we need is a chance to prove ourselves.  less

Yet the same sentence keeps repeating:

“I’ve been applying for months… no response.”

Here’s the hard truth about the UAE job market

1)Jobs don’t move at the same speed as applications
2)Recruiters hire when pressure hits — not when your CV arrives
3)Most roles are filled before they’re ever “actively open”

    This is why:
    • Mass applying feels exhausting
    • Perfect CVs get ignored
    • And referrals outperform 100 applications

In the UAE, hiring runs on three invisible forces:
    Visibility. Timing. Trust.

Miss one and you stay stuck.
Align all three and doors open faster than expected.

If you’re applying from abroad, on a visit visa, employed, unemployed the rule stays the same:
•Being good is not enough. Being visible at the right moment is.

I’ll be sharing practical, market-specific insights on how people are actually landing interviews here not theory, not motivation.

    If this resonates, comment “VISIBILITY”
    Let’s talk.  less

Job interviews aren’t just about showcasing your skills — they’re also about demonstrating professionalism, attitude, and respect.

Proper interview etiquette can make a lasting impression (often just as strong as your experience).

Here are a few practical but powerful reminders:

✅ Arrive on time — or log in early for virtual interviews
👔 Dress appropriately for the role and company culture
🤝 Greet everyone courteously, from the receptionist to the interviewer
📄 Come prepared with CV copies or a portfolio, thoughtful questions, and a clear understanding of the organization and role
🎧 Listen actively and avoid interrupting
📱 Silence your phone and stay fully present
🙏 Thank the interviewer for their time and follow up with a brief message afterward

Small actions speak volumes — and often set great candidates apart.
    Preparation + professionalism = confidence.

Wishing everyone the best in their job search!

    Left feeling hopeful.
    And then nothing.

    No email.

It feels like rejection without the decency of honesty.
    It chips away at confidence.

    Dear HR,

Please don’t reject a candidate solely because of nervousness during an interview. Many deserving candidates may not appear confident in interviews, yet they often perform exceptionally well once given the opportunity on the job.

Likewise, please don’t overlook someone due to a lack of experience. A candidate who is rejected today for this reason may, with time and guidance, become a valuable asset to your organization.
