Role Overview
As a Wheel Loader Operator, you will support a large-scale bush clearing programme by using 18–22-tonne loaders to gather and move windrowed brush, roots and other debris. Your work will help prepare land for cultivation, while close coordination with operators of other machinery keeps clearing fronts productive and safe.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate wheel loaders fitted with general-purpose buckets, root-rake buckets, grapple attachments and other approved tools to handle brush, roots, soil, stones and mixed debris.
- Load and move clearing material efficiently, adjusting bucket position, loading angles and technique to suit ground conditions and the material being handled.
- Use quick-coupler systems and different attachments correctly, and check equipment for wear or damage before and during use.
- Work in coordination with excavator, dozer, grader and truck operators across parallel clearing fronts.
- Monitor traction, ground stability, machine balance, operating limits and visibility while working around other equipment and personnel.
- Carry out routine operator checks and report mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, tyre or attachment defects promptly to the maintenance team.
- Manage fuel responsibly, maintain accurate machine logs and follow site instructions and safe-work procedures.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Valid NTSA Class G2 licence for wheel loader operation.
- At least four years of practical wheel loader operating experience in demanding field conditions.
- Experience in bush clearing, land development, earthworks, quarrying, plantation development or a comparable heavy-duty operation is an advantage.
- Practical experience using different loader attachments and quick-coupler systems.
- Working knowledge of wheel loader mechanics, including hydraulic and drivetrain systems, tyre care and fuel management.
- Ability to identify attachment wear and recognise machine defects that require maintenance attention.
- Sound understanding of soil and ground conditions, traction, stability, loading methods and safe machine operation around people and other plant.
- Clear communication, teamwork and situational awareness, with the ability to follow instructions and keep reliable equipment records in a busy field environment.
