Job Description

Role Overview

You will be the backbone of daily waste collection operations in Karen and the surrounding Nairobi zones, ensuring that residential and commercial waste is picked up on schedule and transported safely to approved disposal sites. Reporting to the Logistics Coordinator, your day will involve driving heavy commercial waste trucks, carrying out thorough vehicle inspections, and guiding the loading crew to keep each route moving efficiently. This role matters because punctual, compliant waste logistics directly protect public health, environmental standards, and the reputation of an established environmental services firm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy commercial waste trucks along assigned collection routes across Karen and nearby residential and commercial areas, completing each route within the daily schedule.
  • Use truck-mounted hydraulic lifts, compactors, and loading systems correctly and safely while waste is being collected from pick-up points.
  • Transport loaded waste to designated dumping grounds, recycling facilities, or treatment plants, ensuring cargo is secure and documented at every stage.
  • Direct and coordinate onboard loaders and collection crew members to keep loading efficient, safe, and free from unnecessary delays.
  • Carry out detailed pre-trip and post-trip inspections covering brakes, tires, fluid levels, hydraulics, and lights, and keep the vehicle clean and road-ready.
  • Monitor basic mechanical performance, identify early warning signs of faults, and report any issues to the workshop or dispatch immediately.
  • Follow all Kenyan traffic regulations, speed limits, defensive driving practices, and workplace safety protocols, and report accidents, route obstructions, or breakdowns without delay.
  • Accurately log trip details, waste weights, fuel consumption, mileage, and disposal receipts, while interacting professionally with residents, estate associations, and property managers.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Valid Heavy Commercial Driving License (Class BCE or CE) with a clean driving record.
  • Minimum 6 years of verifiable experience driving heavy commercial vehicles.
  • At least 2 years of active experience operating waste collection trucks in commercial or urban settings.
  • Working knowledge of heavy-duty truck hydraulics, waste compactors, and basic fault diagnosis.
  • Strong understanding of Kenyan road traffic rules, vehicle safety protocols, and route management.
  • Ability to lead and coordinate collection crew members effectively on-site.
  • Good physical stamina for long hours of urban driving and field-based operations.

What We Offer / Why Join

This is a full-time, field-based position stationed in Karen, Nairobi County, with a monthly remuneration of KSh 60,000. You will join an established environmental services company and play a critical part in its daily logistics, with the stability of a permanent role. Drivers residing in or near Karen, Lang'ata, Dagoretti, and Ngong are strongly encouraged to apply, as the role requires reliable daily attendance at the Karen base.
