Waiter / Food Service Attendant

Role Overview

As a Waiter / Food Service Attendant, you will help provide reliable, courteous meal service for students, faculty, and other staff at an educational institution in Ongata Rongai. You will prepare dining and serving areas, support meal service and portioning, and keep shared spaces clean so that each meal period runs smoothly and safely.

Key Responsibilities

• Arrange dining tables, serving counters, trays, utensils, and condiment stations before meal service.
• Serve food, drinks, and refreshments courteously and efficiently to students and staff.
• Assist with portioning meals and replenishing serving stations during busy periods.
• Clear and sanitize tables, counters, trays, and service equipment after meals.
• Maintain good personal hygiene and follow food-safety, sanitation, and waste-handling procedures.
• Offer appropriate assistance to younger students during dining hours while maintaining professional boundaries.
• Coordinate with cooks, kitchen stewards, and other staff to keep meal service on schedule.
• Report spills, damaged utensils, equipment problems, and shortages to the catering supervisor, and carry out related dining-area tasks as assigned.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Practical experience as a waiter, food service attendant, catering assistant, dining hall steward, or in a comparable role.
• Experience in a school, college, hotel, restaurant, or institutional catering setting is an advantage.
• Working knowledge of food-service hygiene and cleaning practices.
• Polite, patient communication skills and the ability to interact appropriately with students and academic staff.
• Reliable, punctual, presentable, and able to work cooperatively as part of a team.
• Physically able to stand for extended periods, carry trays, and manage an active shift.
• Full-time, on-site role in Ongata Rongai, Kenya.
