Job Description

Role Overview

This position keeps the U.S. government vehicle fleet at post fully operational by performing scheduled maintenance, diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults, and carrying out repairs on both standard and armored vehicles. Day-to-day work involves hands-on servicing, inspecting vehicles for safety compliance, managing in-vehicle camera and telematics hardware, and coordinating with outside vendors when specialist repairs are needed. The role is essential to ensuring that every mission vehicle remains safe, reliable, and ready for use by agency staff at all times.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on USG vehicles, including oil changes, brake and suspension repairs, tire rotations, wheel balancing, and minor electrical work.
  • Inspect vehicles to identify service needs, part replacements, or safety corrections, and confirm each vehicle is operationally safe before use.
  • Service the armored vehicle fleet according to annual maintenance guidance, ensuring specialized security vehicles remain compliant and mission-ready.
  • Install, remove, and maintain DriveCam event recording devices, brackets, and GPS units across all mission vehicles, including those used by partner agencies, while preventing battery drain and addressing faulty components.
  • Recommend repairs that require outsourcing, monitor vendor work in progress and upon completion, and verify that parts and workmanship meet contract specifications and quality standards.
  • Liaise with dealers and maintenance vendors during regular site visits to support procurement decisions and quality control.
  • Maintain accurate vehicle service files, update individual vehicle records, and log data into electronic systems so maintenance history is complete and accessible.
  • Monitor parts stock levels and provide feedback to ensure the warehouse holds the right components for timely servicing.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Completion of secondary school is required.
  • At least three years of formal automotive technical training or an apprenticeship leading to an Automotive Technician Craft 3 certificate or an equivalent credential is required.
  • A minimum of five years of continuous, hands-on experience working as a vehicle mechanic in a recognized institution or organization is required.
  • Ability to obtain and hold a security certificate or Public Trust security clearance is required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for collaborating with drivers, supervisors, and external vendors.
  • Working knowledge of preventative maintenance schedules, electrical systems, brake and suspension repair, and vehicle safety inspection standards is expected.
