Job Description

Role Overview

This is a hands-on finance leadership role within a hospitality operation, where you will own the end-to-end accounting cycle and ensure that management always has accurate, timely financial information. You will spend your days preparing and reviewing reports, monitoring cash and receivables, overseeing food and beverage costing, and guiding a small finance support team through daily reconciliations and stock takes. Your work directly underpins the business's financial health by strengthening internal controls, safeguarding compliance with Kenyan tax and statutory requirements, and driving profitability through disciplined cost management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Compile and present daily revenue and occupancy performance reports, highlighting key variances and operational trends for management action.
  • Oversee weekly cash flow reporting, banking reconciliations, and petty cash controls, while monitoring receivables to ensure prompt debt collection and healthy liquidity.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and detailed variance analysis against budget.
  • Analyse food and beverage profitability, tracking food costs, beverage costs, and margins, and recommend corrective actions or cost-saving initiatives where needed.
  • Ensure all statutory obligations—VAT, PAYE, corporate tax, and other regulatory filings—are met on time, and keep management informed of changes in tax law or IFRS requirements.
  • Coordinate internal and external audits, supervise monthly stock takes and inventory reconciliations, and review procurement processes to enforce purchasing controls.
  • Lead, coach, and supervise the finance support team—including the purchasing officer, storekeeper, cost controller, and payables accountant—reviewing their reports and reconciliations before submission.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, commerce, or a related field.
  • CPA(K) finalist or fully qualified CPA(K); ACCA qualification is an added advantage.
  • At least 5 years of accounting experience, including a minimum of 3 years within the hospitality industry.
  • Proven expertise in hotel financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management, and internal controls.
  • Working knowledge of hotel property management systems (PMS), accounting software, and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong understanding of Kenyan tax regulations and statutory compliance requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with inventory management, food and beverage costing, and procurement controls.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience supervising a finance team, with the ability to mentor and drive accountability.
  • Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, integrity, and the ability to meet strict reporting deadlines independently.
