Role Overview

This position is a faculty appointment within a university French department, where the successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in French language, literature, and culture. Day to day, the role involves preparing and delivering lectures, designing assessments, supervising student research, and contributing to the department's scholarly output. Key Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging, university-level lectures and seminars in French language, literature, and cultural studies, catering to both majors and non-majors.
• Design and update course materials, syllabi, and assessment tools that align with departmental learning outcomes and academic standards.
• Evaluate student performance through essays, oral examinations, and written tests, providing constructive feedback that supports academic growth.
• Supervise and mentor undergraduate projects and graduate theses, guiding students in research methodology and critical analysis.
• Conduct original research in French studies, publishing findings in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at academic conferences.
• Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum development, and faculty committees that shape the academic environment.
• Hold regular office hours to advise students on coursework, degree planning, and career pathways related to French studies.
• Contribute to the broader intellectual community through guest lectures, language clubs, or cultural events that promote Francophone engagement.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A Bachelor's and a Master's of Arts degree in French from a recognised or accredited university; a Doctorate or evidence of advanced doctoral study is considered an asset.
• At least three years of post-qualification work experience in academic teaching or research environments, with a clear record of professional growth.
• Demonstrated university-level teaching experience, including course design and delivery, with strong student evaluations or peer observations.
• Active research output that shows depth in French language, literature, or culture, such as publications, conference papers, or ongoing scholarly projects.
• A clear commitment to high-quality teaching that prioritises student learning, inclusive pedagogy, and a positive, supportive classroom atmosphere.
• Excellent written and oral proficiency in both French and English, sufficient to conduct lectures, publish research, and communicate with colleagues.
