Job Description

Role Overview

This position supports the day-to-day oversight of plantation operations, ensuring field activities run efficiently and production goals are met. You will work closely with estate managers to monitor crop health, coordinate worker teams, and maintain accurate records. Your role is vital to sustaining yield quality and operational discipline across the estate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise daily field operations including planting, irrigation, fertilising, and harvesting schedules.
  • Monitor crop growth and pest/disease prevalence, reporting findings to senior management promptly.
  • Coordinate with estate labour teams to allocate tasks, track attendance, and enforce safety protocols.
  • Maintain detailed logs of inputs (fertiliser, chemicals), yield data, and equipment usage.
  • Assist in preparing operational budgets and cost reports for the estate.
  • Conduct regular field inspections to ensure compliance with company standards and environmental regulations.
  • Support training and development of junior staff and casual workers on best practices.
  • Liaise with the head office on weekly performance updates and resource requirements.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Minimum qualification of A/L (Advanced Level) with a strong academic record; a degree in Agriculture, Plantation Management, or a related field is preferred.
  • Completion of the NIPM Plantations Management Course is a distinct advantage.
  • Demonstrated leadership potential with the ability to manage and motivate teams in a field environment.
  • Excellent command of English (both written and spoken) for reporting and coordination.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, high attention to detail, and ability to work under minimal supervision.
  • Proven ability to coordinate effectively across multiple teams and shifts.
  • Fluency in Sinhala and Tamil is an added advantage for worker communication.
