As a Tour Truck Driver with Intrepid, you’ll play a vital role in making every journey smooth, safe, and truly memorable.
Every day will be different, but every day you will:
- Ensure the safe, reliable and professional driving of our overland tour trucks as you navigate diverse routes across East Africa
- Support tour leaders with essential logistics such as loading and unloading equipment, organising supplies, and helping create efficient travel days
- Maintain the vehicle to a high standard - keeping it clean, fueled, well-organised and mechanically sound
- Be the calm, capable first point of call when challenges arise, using your driving expertise and practical problem-solving skills
- Provide friendly, respectful and engaging interactions with travellers, helping cultivate a positive group experience
- Uphold Intrepid’s safety policies and responsible travel ethos throughout every journey
To be considered you must have:
- A valid commercial driver’s licence and a clean driving record
- Proven experience driving heavy vehicles, ideally across East Africa
- Basic mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot issues on the road
- Strong communication skills and a customer-first mindset
- Willingness to work long hours, weekends, and travel extensively across multiple regions
- Familiarity with East African roads, border crossings, and terrain (advantageous)
Desirable:
- A passion for travel and commitment to Intrepid’s responsible travel philosophy

- A digital mindset and comfort with basic tech tools
- Driver-guide qualifications (advantageous but not essential)
What you need to know:
- This is a freelance agreement role, offering flexibility, but it requires strong availability during peak travel seasons
- Recruitment is underway now, with onboarding and training taking place ahead of the coming travel season
- The role is physically and mentally demanding - involving long driving days, outdoor activity, and consistent engagement with travellers
- You’ll spend significant time away from home, with some trips running for several weeks at a time
- You’ll be driving across multiple East African regions, playing a key part in bringing our overland adventures to life
