Job Description

Role Overview

As a Test Engineer on the global IT team, you will be the final safeguard ensuring that Save the Children International’s core business applications are stable, functional, and ready for release. Your day-to-day focus will be on designing and executing comprehensive test strategies—covering integration, functional, regression, and performance testing—while actively working alongside developers, project managers, and architects to prevent defects from reaching end users. By maintaining and refining test frameworks and championing quality practices, you will directly support the organisation’s mission to deliver reliable digital solutions for programme delivery, fundraising, and operational effectiveness across the globe.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain test strategies, plans, scenarios, and scripts that provide thorough coverage for each release, ensuring alignment with business requirements and timelines.
  • Execute functional, integration, regression, and end-to-end tests using a blend of manual and automated approaches, then clearly communicate release readiness recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with project managers, developers, and solution architects to define quality expectations, identify risks early, and ensure testing deliverables meet agreed standards.
  • Manage the complete test cycle in Jira, including defect logging, prioritisation, status tracking, and generation of quality dashboards and test metrics for leadership.
  • Coordinate testing efforts across virtual teams and third-party testers, ensuring resources are deployed effectively and testing objectives are delivered on schedule.
  • Monitor production releases and investigate post-release issues, leading root cause analysis and driving continuous improvements to reduce recurring defects.
  • Mentor local and global peers in testing best practices, promoting a culture where quality, transparency, and good practice are embedded across all product development activities.

Requirements & Qualifications

Essential:

  • Proven experience as a Test Engineer or in a comparable quality assurance role, with a solid track record of creating, executing, and managing test plans in both manual and automated environments.
  • Strong knowledge of the Software Testing Life Cycle (STLC), including unit, functional, integration, regression, system, and user acceptance testing within Agile and Waterfall delivery models.
  • Hands-on experience with automated testing tools, performance testing tools, and CI/CD processes to ensure efficient and robust test coverage across multiple platforms.
  • Advanced proficiency with Jira and related testing or reporting plugins, including defect management and quality reporting.
  • Ability to translate user stories, business requirements, and functional specifications into well-structured test cases and executable test scripts.
  • Demonstrated experience in defect management, prioritisation, root cause analysis, and assessing release readiness for production deployments.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, alongside strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication in English, with the ability to engage effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders across global, cross-functional teams.
  • Relevant degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge and practical application of Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behaviour-Driven Development (BDD) methodologies.
  • Familiarity with emerging testing tools, frameworks, and industry best practices, along with a proactive approach to continuous learning.
  • Experience researching, evaluating, and introducing new testing tools or approaches that improve efficiency and product quality.
  • Participation in software testing conferences, meetups, or professional communities.
  • ISTQB Advanced, Agile Testing, Certified Scrum Practitioner, or performance/automation testing certifications.
