Temporary Reliever Driver

Role Overview

This role is the backbone of our field operations, ensuring that staff, visitors, and project participants move safely and efficiently between offices, field sites, and meetings. Beyond transporting people, you will handle sensitive cargo and documents, keep our vehicles mission-ready, and step in to support logistics whenever the team needs an extra hand. Your reliability directly enables our programs to reach communities and deliver services without interruption.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive NGO personnel, official guests, and program beneficiaries to approved locations, adapting routes as needed to avoid delays or unsafe conditions.
• Deliver project materials, equipment, parcels, and paperwork to field teams and partner offices, confirming receipt and maintaining accurate delivery records.
• Inspect vehicles before and after each trip, checking fuel, oil, tires, brakes, and fluid levels to catch issues early and keep vehicles roadworthy.
• Maintain up-to-date registration, insurance, and service history documents, and schedule routine maintenance before problems escalate.
• Diagnose basic mechanical faults, coordinate repair work with approved mechanics, and verify that completed repairs meet safety standards.
• Support project teams with ad-hoc logistical tasks, such as loading/unloading supplies, running errands, or assisting during field activities.
• Remain reachable outside regular working hours for emergency transport requests, responding calmly and quickly to urgent operational needs.
• Act as a respectful and professional representative of the organization when interacting with authorities, partners, and community members.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Valid, clean driver’s license; at least 3–5 years of professional driving experience, preferably with an NGO, INGO, embassy, or similar organization.
• Full proficiency in operating manual transmission vehicles, including SUVs and light trucks.
• Hands-on knowledge of vehicle maintenance routines and ability to perform basic troubleshooting to prevent breakdowns.
• Strong familiarity with local traffic laws, road safety practices, and defensive driving techniques.
• Proven ability to remain composed under pressure, adapt to changing plans, and handle emergency situations with sound judgment.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative mindset and cultural sensitivity when working with diverse teams and communities.
• Basic literacy and numeracy for vehicle logs, incident reporting, and expense documentation; computer skills are a plus.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends, when operational demands require it.
