Role Overview
This teaching role is centred on helping every learner develop academically, socially and morally. The teacher plans and delivers lessons that respond to a wide range of abilities, keeps careful track of progress, and works closely with colleagues, families and school leaders to maintain a positive, well-ordered learning environment. The position matters because it directly shapes students’ character, confidence and talents while supporting the school’s educational standards and ethos.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and teach lessons for an assigned class, adapting tasks and materials so students with different learning and social needs can take part and progress.
- Set clear, attainable learning targets using each student’s previous attainment, and use formative and summative assessment to guide weekly and termly planning.
- Maintain accurate, efficient records of work and progress, and report to parents on their children’s development and achievement.
- Create a stimulating classroom where resources are organised and accessible, and where good order and discipline are upheld in line with the school’s behaviour policy.
- Work constructively with teaching and non-teaching colleagues, parents and directors, and implement school policies and guidelines agreed with the Principal.
- Lead, organise and direct classroom support staff, and take part in performance management, staff meetings, seminars and curriculum-related events.
- Monitor attendance promptly and report absences to the Principal or Deputy Principal, while carrying out supervisory and out-of-school activity duties as required.
- Present a professional image through appropriate dress and conduct, and support initiatives introduced by the Principal and senior staff.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor of Education (Education option) or an equivalent qualification from a recognised university or institution.
- Registered member of the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
- At least three years of teaching experience in a recognised school.
- Ability to teach Environmental Management is an added advantage.
- Good understanding of current educational issues related to the specialist subject area.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal and team-working skills, with the ability to engage a diverse student body.
- Self-driven approach and a willingness to inspire, challenge, motivate and empower students.
- Commitment to upholding the Makini Values.
