Role Overview
Amotech Africa is seeking a Training Lead to establish a technical training business and turn it into a sustainable source of revenue. You will shape the training offer from initial client needs assessment through programme design, marketing, sales and delivery, drawing on the expertise of company specialists and OEM partners. The role serves clients and sales teams across Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, the DRC and Ethiopia.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up the training unit’s operating model, procedures and quality controls in line with company policies and applicable ISO 9001:2015 processes.
- Assess training needs among current and prospective clients, then use the findings to prioritise programmes and develop curricula, learning materials and assessments.
- Build a network of internal technical trainers by identifying, preparing and coaching engineers, laboratory staff and project leads to deliver or co-facilitate courses.
- Develop defined training products, including their scope, learning outcomes and pricing, and work with regional sales teams to present them to business clients.
- Generate and manage a training sales pipeline, pursue client opportunities and proposals, and take responsibility for achieving the unit’s revenue target and supporting year-on-year growth.
- Coordinate with sales and marketing colleagues on client proposals, tender responses, brochures, case studies, digital content and other materials that promote the training offer.
- Plan the annual course calendar and deliver classroom, practical and on-site programmes, coordinating participants, internal trainers and OEM partners as needed.
- Monitor and report performance measures such as revenue, gross margin, attendance, assessment results, client feedback and opportunities across the region; keep technical knowledge current.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Instrumentation or a related discipline.
- At least three years of experience in technical training, engineering or a test-and-measurement environment.
- Experience developing training programmes from needs analysis through curriculum design, delivery and learner assessment.
- Ability to engage internal subject-matter experts as trainers or co-facilitators, rather than relying exclusively on external or OEM instructors.
- Commercial experience in business development, including developing, pricing and selling training solutions to business-to-business clients.
- Strong presentation and facilitation skills, with the ability to explain technical subjects clearly to learners with different levels of experience.
- Experience working with sales and marketing teams on training proposals and promotional materials; regional or multi-country collaboration is an advantage.
- Familiarity with test and measurement equipment, instrumentation or calibration is desirable. Experience with products from Megger, Fluke, FLIR, Anritsu or similar manufacturers is an added advantage.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience using a learning management system is beneficial.
- Self-directed and goal-focused, with the ability to manage a sales pipeline, work independently and deliver against revenue objectives.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 quality management processes is an advantage.
