Role Overview
This role focuses on the day-to-day management of financial transactions and records using Tally ERP, ensuring every entry is accurate and every account is reconciled on time. By keeping the general ledger clean and preparing timely reports, the accountant directly supports the company’s financial health and regulatory compliance. The work is essential for smooth month-end and year-end closings, audit readiness, and adherence to Kenyan tax obligations.
Key Responsibilities
- Record and update all financial transactions in Tally ERP, verifying data accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare periodic financial statements—monthly, quarterly, and annual—for internal review and external reporting.
- Scrutinise general ledger accounts regularly to catch errors, omissions, or inconsistencies early.
- Conduct reconciliations for bank accounts, supplier ledgers, and customer accounts to match records with actual balances.
- Draft and post journal entries, including adjusting entries, to reflect correct financial positions.
- Compile and organise documentation required for internal or external audits, ensuring everything is readily available.
- Handle all tax and statutory compliance tasks, such as filing returns and remitting payments within deadlines.
- Investigate any discrepancies in accounts, resolve them, and document the resolution steps for audit trails.
- Support the month-end and year-end close processes by preparing schedules, accruals, and reconciliations.
- Maintain orderly financial files and suggest improvements to existing accounting workflows for greater efficiency.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
- CPA(K) qualification or active progress toward certification is preferred.
- At least 2–3 years of hands-on accounting experience, including practical use of Tally ERP in a day-to-day setting.
- Solid understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and Kenyan tax and statutory regulations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, lookups) and general Office applications.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with keen attention to detail and a high standard of integrity.
- Organised and capable of managing multiple reconciliations and deadlines simultaneously.
