Role Overview
As Stock-In-Charge, you own the accuracy and flow of everything moving through the storeroom and onto the shop floor — from the moment a delivery arrives to the moment an item is sold or returned. You keep physical stock and system records telling the same story, so the business can make buying, pricing and replenishment decisions on numbers it can actually trust. In a retail environment where gaps on the shelf mean lost sales, your attention to detail directly protects revenue and customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, inspect and sign off incoming deliveries, checking quantities, condition and specifications against purchase orders and delivery documentation before stock is accepted.
- Record all receipts, transfers, returns and adjustments in the inventory or ERP system promptly, ensuring every movement is captured against the correct item and location code.
- Store and label goods systematically so items can be located quickly, and apply rotation principles to keep older stock moving first and minimise expiry or obsolescence.
- Monitor stock levels against agreed minimum and reorder thresholds, flagging shortages, overstock and slow-moving lines to the relevant buyer or manager.
- Run regular cycle counts and full stock takes, investigate variances, and document the root cause of discrepancies rather than simply adjusting the figure.
- Handle damaged, short-supplied or incorrect items through the returns-to-vendor process, tracking each claim until it is resolved.
- Coordinate with store teams, procurement and suppliers on delivery schedules, urgent replenishment and stock queries.
- Prepare routine stock reports covering movement, shrinkage and availability, and keep the storeroom organised, safe and compliant with housekeeping and health and safety standards.
