Role Overview
As a spa therapist at a retreat in Maasai Mara, Kenya, you will spend your days delivering hands-on massage treatments that help guests unwind, recover from physical strain, and leave feeling refreshed. You will be responsible for preparing treatment spaces, understanding each client's needs, and performing a variety of massage techniques while maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and safety. Your skill and professionalism directly influence how guests remember their stay, making this a key role in the overall hospitality experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Keep treatment rooms, workstations, and shared spa areas clean, safe, and well-organized throughout every shift.
- Set up and reset massage stations, ensuring all equipment, supplies, and linens are ready for each appointment.
- Swap and manage linens between sessions, keeping used items separate from clean stock.
- Sterilize tools and equipment, following all hygiene and infection-control protocols.
- Guide guests to and from treatment rooms and help them feel comfortable and at ease.
- Consult with clients to identify the most suitable massage service based on their preferences, health history, and wellness goals.
- Perform the massage modalities listed on the spa menu, adjusting pressure and technique to suit each client.
- Maintain accurate client records and documentation, and comply with all applicable standards, rules, and regulations.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or equivalent in massage therapy or a related field from a recognized institution.
- At least two years of hands-on experience as a massage therapist.
- Proficiency in reflexology, Swedish, prenatal, hot stone, trigger point, sports, and deep tissue massage.
- Comfortable working with a diverse clientele and performing massages on clients of different ages and backgrounds.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain treatments clearly and listen carefully.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a genuine desire to help people relax and feel better.
- Basic computer skills for scheduling, record-keeping, or spa software.
- Well-groomed, professional appearance.
- Physically dexterous and able to stand for extended periods.
- Integrity and a reliable, ethical approach to client care.
- Foreign language skills are an added advantage.
