Role Overview
The Software Developer Analyst is part of the team that builds, configures, and supports the organization’s global Data Toolkits, a set of measurement and program-administration products that rely on CommCare, Microsoft Power BI, and an Azure-based Microsoft SQL Server data warehouse. Day to day, the role turns program and technology needs into working tools, dashboards, and data processes, then helps country and regional colleagues adopt and troubleshoot them. The work matters because it directly affects how reliably programs can collect, interpret, and use data for decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, configure, and maintain CommCare-based Data Toolkit applications and modules, including forms, workflows, and case-management logic that support data collection and program administration.
- Build and maintain Power BI dashboards and datasets that connect to live CommCare data, ensuring visuals, filters, and refresh behavior meet program reporting needs.
- Gather and analyze software requirements from program and technology stakeholders, test feasibility and complexity, break work into estimated developer tasks, confirm each requirement traces to system design and existing configuration, and provide technology updates or clarifications to stakeholders.
- Document data and metadata definitions, versioning practices, system diagrams, and implementation manuals so tools can be maintained and handed over consistently.
- Implement data quality checks, validation routines, and development standards, and ensure work follows data protection, confidentiality, and security requirements.
- Provide Tier-2 and Tier-3 support for measurement technology products, including troubleshooting, issue routing, and technical assistance for country and regional technology teams.
- During pilots and rollouts, deliver training and intensive rollout support for measurement technology products in close collaboration with regional technology colleagues.
- Use source control and versioning platforms such as GitHub or Azure DevOps to manage code, participate in peer reviews, and maintain release quality.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Three to six years of technology experience developing and rolling out data or technology platforms for programs, including at least three years developing, implementing, and supporting CommCare for large, complex programs.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Power BI, Microsoft SQL Server on Azure-based data warehouses, and related data platform tools.
- Familiarity with Databricks, Dataverse connectors, APIs, and Microsoft Azure services.
- Experience with source code and version control platforms such as GitHub, Azure DevOps, or similar.
- Strong software quality practices, including unit testing, integration testing, regression testing, code reviews, pair programming, shadow sessions, and other team-based development approaches.
- Working knowledge of agile delivery practices, such as user stories, backlog grooming, and sprint ceremonies, with a preference for iterative, requirements-driven development.
- Excellent English communication skills, both spoken and written, with the ability to explain complex technical topics clearly to non-technical audiences and adapt language to different stakeholders.
- Strong attention to detail, analytical curiosity, innovative problem-solving, and a systems-thinking approach.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and within dynamic, cross-functional teams, and to build and maintain relationships across departments and organizational levels.
