Shift-In-Charge/ Machine Operator

Role Overview

As Shift In-Charge, you will run our CPP Cast Film and Stretch Film extrusion lines for the duration of your assigned shift, taking ownership of everything from start-up and changeovers through to shutdown. This is a hands-on, shop-floor role where you set the tone for output, quality, and safety — balancing day-to-day machine operation with direct supervision of the operators and support staff working alongside you. If you enjoy working closely with industrial equipment and solving practical production problems in real time, this position puts you at the centre of the manufacturing process rather than on its periphery.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out the full operating cycle of CPP Cast Film and Stretch Film extrusion lines: start-up, product changeovers, steady-state running, and shutdown.
• Monitor and adjust key machine parameters — temperatures, pressures, line speeds, dosing rates, cooling, and winding — to keep film within specification.
• Track output, machine efficiency, waste generation, and downtime throughout the shift, and act on deviations as they appear.
• Perform first-line mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, resolving straightforward faults and escalating complex breakdowns to the maintenance team.
• Watch machine alarms and abnormal operating conditions, logging faults and the corrective action taken so the next shift has a clear picture.
• Verify quality attributes such as micron/thickness, film width, roll weight, winding quality, and visual appearance, and ensure any off-spec or rejected material is identified and segregated.
• Direct the operators, assistants, and helpers on your shift — allocating tasks and holding the team to production procedures, discipline, safety rules, and housekeeping standards.
• Keep accurate shift records covering output, waste, downtime, machine faults, and quality issues, and deliver a clear handover of outstanding production or equipment concerns.
• Enforce machine safety procedures and PPE requirements, and collaborate with maintenance and production colleagues to resolve equipment and process problems.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Education: Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Manufacturing/Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Polymer/Plastics Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience: Prior work experience is not required — recent graduates with strong technical aptitude are welcome to apply, and industrial attachment, internship, or academic project work involving machinery, manufacturing, automation, or maintenance will be considered.
• Advantageous background: Exposure to plastic extrusion (cast film, blown film, or stretch film), industrial machinery, PLC-controlled equipment, motors and drives, or industrial maintenance.
• Technical familiarity: A working understanding of extrusion equipment — extruders, motors, drives, heaters, sensors, pumps, cooling, and winding systems — along with the ability to read and follow technical instructions and procedures.
• Shift availability: Willingness to work shifts, including night shifts where required.
