Role Overview

As Senior Portfolio Manager for CBM’s Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD) donor portfolio, you will provide strategic direction and day-to-day oversight across a set of multi-country programmes funded by institutional donors. Your focus will be on making sure grants run smoothly from planning to reporting: aligning country teams around common standards, keeping donor conditions front of mind, tracking budgets and results, and escalating concerns before they become issues. In this role, you serve as the bridge between global programme ambitions, country-level realities, and donor expectations, ensuring CBM remains a dependable, high-quality partner while helping shape future funding opportunities.

This is a senior role suited to someone who can see both the big picture and the detail: you will guide portfolio-wide financial and operational risk management, support country teams through critical implementation periods, and contribute to relationship-building with major institutional donors and secretariats. The initial focus will be on the RLMF portfolio, with broader NTD portfolio support as part of your mandate.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead all aspects of grant management and donor compliance for the multi-country NTD portfolio, including quality review of budgets, workplans, procurement plans, and donor reports before submission.
• Oversee sub-award management and sub-grant agreements with in-country partners, ensuring consistent compliance monitoring and alignment across partner organisations and country teams.
• Track portfolio performance, budget utilisation, and milestone delivery, supporting country teams to stay on schedule and flagging budget or implementation risks early.
• Conduct strategic risk assessments across financial, operational, and compliance areas, providing analysis and recommendations to inform senior leadership decisions.
• Act as a key interface between CBM and institutional donors, managing ongoing exchanges, donor reporting, and stewardship conversations alongside programmatic colleagues.
• Coordinate internal stakeholders across country offices and global functions to improve grant management practices, clarify roles, and strengthen ways of working across the portfolio.
• Support resource mobilisation and business development by preparing accurate performance, compliance, and impact information that can be used in funding proposals and donor engagement.
• Capture lessons learned and proactively share good practice across country teams, fostering knowledge exchange and continuous improvement in NTD programme delivery.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Relevant academic degree in international development, public health, business administration, or another related discipline.
• Substantial, hands-on experience in grants management for multi-country, donor-funded health or development programmes, specifically covering budget oversight, compliance monitoring, and sub-award administration.
• Proven track record of advising on or managing institutional donor compliance frameworks at portfolio level, including experience translating complex donor regulations into workable guidance for country teams.
• Strong knowledge of the NTD landscape and familiarity with major global health and NTD-focused institutional donors.
• Significant experience managing sub-award or sub-grant agreements with in-country partner organisations, including capacity support and risk mitigation.
• Demonstrated ability to work across multiple country offices in matrix or international environments, showing cultural sensitivity and the capacity to build consensus with remote teams.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with senior external stakeholders, including the ability to represent CBM in donor-facing settings with confidence and clarity.
• Strong organisational and analytical skills, with a track record of prioritising multiple deadlines and working independently under pressure.
• Professional proficiency in both English and French, with high-standard report writing and presentation skills in both languages.
• Willingness to travel internationally when required and to adapt working hours to accommodate time zone differences.
• Alignment with the Christian values, mandate, and safeguarding commitments of CBM.
• Candidates must be eligible for local employment under the contractual conditions of one of CBM’s permanent established entities, in locations including but not limited to Germany, the UK, the US, Kenya, Nigeria, Togo, Cameroon, Zambia, Ethiopia, Guatemala, Uganda, and Niger. Expatriation arrangements are not available for this position.
