Role Overview
This is a hands-on finance leadership role covering the entire accounting lifecycle for our business operations in both Kenya and Tanzania. You will be the person ultimately responsible for the month-end close, statutory reporting, tax filings, and the internal control environment across both countries. The work you do here matters because it keeps the company free of operational risk and provides leadership with accurate financial insight for strategic decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the complete month-end close process for both the Kenyan and Tanzanian entities, producing accurate management accounts and statutory financial statements.
- Prepare and review bank reconciliations, intercompany transfers, accruals, and other balance sheet reconciliations to maintain data integrity.
- Coordinate internal and external audit requirements, including preparing audit schedules, responding to queries, and implementing recommendations.
- Maintain and update fixed asset registers, calculating depreciation and performing periodic physical verification of assets.
- Supervise the full payables cycle, from invoice processing and payment runs to enforcing proper authorisation and segregation of duties.
- Strengthen and document internal finance controls, identifying gaps in processes and implementing practical improvements across both operations.
- Drive the annual budgeting and periodic forecasting processes, preparing detailed models and delivering variance analysis to improve decision-making.
- Oversee tax compliance including corporate income tax, VAT, PAYE, and any local statutory obligations in both countries, coordinating with external advisors as needed.
Requirements & Qualifications
- CPA(K), ACCA, or an equivalent professional accounting qualification with current ICPAK registration.
- At least 7 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, with a meaningful portion spent in a supervisory role.
- Demonstrated exposure to both the Kenyan and Tanzanian finance environments, including local tax and statutory regulations.
- Advanced Excel capabilities and strong financial modelling skills; practical experience with Xero or a similar ERP is essential.
- A detail-oriented, hands-on working style, comfortable operating at both strategic and transactional levels.
- Excellent stakeholder communication skills, with the ability to explain financial issues clearly to non-finance colleagues and external parties.
