Role Overview
As Senior Accountant, you will take ownership of the full accounting cycle in a manufacturing, building, and construction environment, keeping the general ledger accurate while giving management the financial visibility it needs to plan and grow. Day to day, this means running payables, cash flow, reconciliations, and month-end reporting so that supplier obligations are met on time and business decisions rest on reliable numbers. The position sits at the centre of budgeting, forecasting, statutory compliance, and internal control, making it critical to protecting the company's financial health and supporting its expansion.
Key Responsibilities
- Process supplier invoices, petty cash vouchers, reimbursements, and payments accurately and by their due dates, confirming amounts and records before release.
- Maintain the general ledger through timely journal entries, fixed asset capitalisation, receipt recording, and payment processing.
- Perform daily bank reconciliations and monthly balance sheet reconciliations, investigating and clearing any outstanding items promptly.
- Prepare a weekly cash-flow forecast to guide payment scheduling and short-term planning, tracking cash, working capital, revenue, and expenditure.
- Keep the fixed asset register current and reconcile customer and supplier accounts on a periodic basis.
- Produce and present monthly management accounts and financial reports, and oversee budgeting, forecasting, and the company's overall financial planning.
- Review debtors monthly and follow up on overdue balances, while maintaining a fully organised digital and physical financial filing system.
- Ensure compliance with statutory obligations including VAT, PAYE, NSSF, and WHT, strengthen internal controls, and prepare audit schedules for internal and external audits, coordinating the process and resolving findings on time.
- Support continuous improvement of the business through standard operating procedures and adherence to company policy and the approvals framework.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in finance, accounting, or a closely related field.
- CPA or ACCA certification is preferred.
- At least five years of experience as a financial controller in a manufacturing, building, or construction company.
- Hands-on proficiency with an ERP system such as SAP, Oracle, Dynamics, or Sage, plus advanced Excel skills.
- Solid working knowledge of financial regulations and accounting processes, including VAT, PAYE, NSSF, and WHT requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities and consistently meet deadlines.
- Proven financial reporting skills and the ability to lead and develop a team.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, integrity, sound judgement, and commercial and operational awareness.
