Role Overview
This position takes charge of the accounting cycle for a portfolio of assignments, producing dependable monthly, quarterly, and annual financial information while keeping records aligned with Kenyan rules. It blends hands-on ledger work with review, control improvement, budgeting support, and client-facing analysis. The person in this seat also serves as a technical resource for less experienced accountants and helps raise the standard of financial processes across engagements.
Key Responsibilities
- Run the monthly close and reporting timetable, including management accounts, statutory financial statements, journals, accruals, and provisions.
- Own ledger integrity: review trial balances, reconcile bank, supplier, customer, and balance sheet accounts, and resolve unreconciled items promptly.
- Prepare budgets, forecasts, cash-flow projections, and variance analysis that guide management or client decisions.
- Monitor compliance with Kenyan tax, statutory, and regulatory filing requirements, and flag exposures before deadlines are missed.
- Prepare audit files, respond to auditor queries, and coordinate evidence requests for internal and external reviews.
- Assess financial controls and accounting workflows, recommend practical fixes, and help implement system or process improvements.
- Supervise or coach junior accountants, review their work papers, and share technical guidance on accounting and reporting matters.
- Deliver ad hoc reports, financial schedules, and client-specific analyses with clear recommendations.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, commerce, or a related field.
- CPA(K), ACCA, or an equivalent professional accounting qualification is required.
- Four to five years of progressive accounting experience, ideally gained in consulting, professional services, or another client-facing environment.
- Strong technical grasp of financial reporting, taxation, accounting principles, and internal controls.
- Practical knowledge of Kenyan tax and statutory compliance requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare management accounts and complete financial statements.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and hands-on experience with accounting or ERP systems.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management, and financial analysis.
- Ability to work independently, manage several assignments or clients at once, and meet tight reporting deadlines.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and report-writing skills, with high integrity, attention to detail, and professional judgement.
