Security Systems Technician

Role Overview

As a Security Systems Engineer at Biometrics Technology Ltd., you will own the technical delivery of electronic security installations from the first site survey through to handover and ongoing support. Your day-to-day work spans designing, building, configuring, and fault-finding the CCTV, access control, intrusion detection, and perimeter protection systems that protect our clients' people, property, and operations. This position sits at the core of our project delivery capability — the reliability and compliance of every system we hand over depends on the engineer who designed, commissioned, and maintains it.

Key Responsibilities

• Visit client sites to assess requirements, then translate those findings into system designs, equipment schedules, and bills of quantities that support technical proposals.
• Install, configure, and commission IP CCTV infrastructure, including cameras, NVRs and DVRs, video management software, and supporting hardware.
• Build, program, and maintain access control systems covering biometric and card readers, controllers, locking hardware, and door sensors.
• Deploy and support intrusion detection systems, including control panels, detectors, sirens, and peripheral devices.
• Integrate separate platforms — video, access control, alarms, barrier and gate automation, turnstiles, and bollards — into a single coordinated security solution.
• Configure the network layer that security devices depend on, including IP addressing, switches, PoE, VLANs, and structured cabling, and resolve faults across hardware, software, power, and communication paths.
• Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance and responsive corrective maintenance so installed systems stay operational and continue to deliver value over their service life.
• Produce clear technical documentation — installation records, maintenance and service reports, and handover packs — and train client users on the systems delivered.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, ICT, Telecommunications, Computer Science, Security Systems Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
• Two to five years of hands-on experience installing and maintaining electronic security systems.
• Demonstrated practical experience with CCTV and access control systems is essential.
• Solid working knowledge of IP networking, TCP/IP, PoE, switches, VLANs, and structured cabling.
• Experience working with fibre and copper cabling is an added advantage.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and network diagrams.
• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving ability, with the confidence to work unsupervised, meet deadlines, and respond to client support requests.
• Strong analytical skills, clear communication and interpersonal ability, and a customer-focused, professional approach.
• Capacity to perform under pressure across multiple concurrent assignments, coordinating effectively with clients, contractors, and internal technical teams.
• Integrity, accountability, and close attention to detail in all work.
