Security Shift Supervisor

Role Overview

This is a front-line command position for someone who can run a full security shift inside a busy production and distribution site. You will decide where officers and contracted guards are posted, keep access and movement controls tight across every gate and door, and take charge when something goes wrong — whether that is a seal discrepancy, a missing consignment or a live incident. The role matters because the safety of the people on site, the integrity of the product and the reliability of outbound loads all depend on a shift that is visibly led, consistently enforced and accurately reported to the Assistant Security Manager.

Key Responsibilities

• Build the shift plan by weighing risk areas, production and dispatch timetables, visitor volumes and vulnerable posts before allocating people and positions.
• Run start-of-shift briefings, handovers and end-of-shift debriefs; assign posts, equipment and any special instructions for the day.
• Oversee both in-house officers and contract guards, carry out post inspections and correct service shortfalls before they are repeated.
• Ensure access, search, visitor, key, seal, vehicle and property-removal procedures are followed at every point across the site.
• Verify high-risk inward and outward movements through direct checks or spot verification; challenge and escalate any mismatch in documents, quantities, seals or routes.
• Take initial command at security incidents, protect the scene, activate the relevant response plan and give investigators the support they need.
• Keep the operation aligned with private-security legislation, occupational health and safety rules, food-defence requirements and internal company policy.
• Produce shift summaries, reports and dashboards, identify emerging trends and recommend practical corrective actions.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Experience: At least 5 years of progressive security experience, including a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory or shift-lead role.
• Sector fit: A background in FMCG, manufacturing, warehousing, logistics, agriculture or distribution is strongly preferred.
• Education: Diploma in Security Management, Criminology, Investigations, Business Administration or a comparable discipline; a relevant bachelor's degree is an advantage.
• Compliance: Valid registration, training and compliance credentials as required under the applicable private-security law and regulation.
• Core technical competence: Demonstrated ability in shift command, access control, CCTV monitoring, incident management and emergency response.
• Operational knowledge: A working understanding of inventory and dispatch controls, food defence, occupational safety and contractor management.
• Systems literacy: Comfortable using email, spreadsheets, incident-reporting systems and electronic surveillance or access-control platforms.
• Leadership: Frontline leadership presence and clear personal accountability for the shift you run.
• Judgement: Strong risk awareness, sound operational decision-making and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
• Investigation and reporting: Disciplined investigative habits, clear written reporting and appropriate escalation.
• Working style: Analytical thinking, practical problem solving and effective teamwork.
• Advantageous certifications: First aid, fire marshal, investigations, defensive driving or occupational safety qualifications.
