Security Officer

Role Overview

As a Security Officer you will be the first and last line of protection for the people, premises and products on site, working across the gatehouse, the patrol routes and the control room. Your shift revolves around controlling who and what moves in and out, watching for losses and unsafe conditions, and recording everything clearly enough that managers can act on it. In an operation that handles large volumes of goods and raw materials, your alertness is what keeps stock intact, staff safe and customer commitments met.

Key Responsibilities

• Control movement through all entry and exit points, allowing employees, visitors, contractors and vehicles through only when the correct identifications, authorisations, gate passes and vehicle records have been checked and verified.
• Search people, bags, vehicles and consignments within the boundaries set by company policy and the law, conducting every search courteously and without discrimination.
• Issue, log, track and recover controlled security items such as visitor badges, keys and radios, and investigate any item that cannot be accounted for.
• Patrol the perimeter, production areas, warehouses, dispatch bays, offices and other identified weak points on both fixed rounds and unannounced spot checks.
• Monitor CCTV, alarm systems and other assigned security equipment, reporting faults, blind spots and irregularities to the supervisor without delay.
• Detect and escalate theft, tampering, suspicious behaviour, unsafe practices, and food-defence or biosecurity breaches as soon as they are observed.
• Maintain accurate occurrence books, patrol logs, key registers, visitor and vehicle registers, and written incident reports.
• Verify inbound and outbound loads against seals, dispatch documentation and gate passes, flagging any discrepancy, and respond to alarms, fire, medical or security incidents while supporting evacuations and emergency procedures.

Requirements & Qualifications

• KCSE certificate or equivalent.
• At least two years of relevant security experience, ideally gained in FMCG, manufacturing, warehousing, logistics, agriculture or another high-volume distribution environment.
• Sound working knowledge of access control, patrolling, CCTV monitoring, incident reporting and emergency response procedures.
• Basic computer literacy and the ability to write clear, factual reports.
• Valid registration, training and compliance as required under the applicable private-security legislation and regulations.
• Demonstrated integrity and trustworthiness, with the vigilance and attention to detail needed to spot small irregularities before they become losses.
• Good judgement and a willingness to escalate promptly rather than act beyond your authority.
• Confident spoken and written communication, a service-oriented manner with visitors and staff, and strict confidentiality.
• Reliable team player, physically fit and available to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends and public holidays.
• A certificate in security management, criminology, investigations, fire safety or first aid is an added advantage.
• A valid driving licence is an added advantage.
