Security Assistant

Role Overview

As a Security Assistant at our student residence, you will be the frontline guardian of a safe, welcoming living community. Your daily work involves patrolling the property, managing access for residents and guests, and responding to incidents—all while maintaining a calm, helpful demeanor that supports student wellbeing. This role is critical to upholding the residence's security standards, ensuring that everyone on site feels protected and that safety protocols are consistently followed.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as a friendly, approachable point of contact for students, staff, and visitors, answering security-related questions and resolving concerns.
• Perform regular foot patrols across the residence to deter unauthorized activity and spot safety hazards.
• Operate the gate pass and visitor management system, verifying identities and authorizing or denying entry as appropriate.
• Uphold residence security policies and tenancy agreement requirements, ensuring all occupants comply with established rules.
• Serve as a first responder during emergencies, participating in annual fire drills and assisting with evacuations or other urgent situations.
• Identify and report maintenance issues to the relevant department, then track follow-up to confirm the problem is resolved.
• Maintain detailed incident logs and security records, documenting suspicious activities or breaches and escalating them to the Security Team Leader.
• Collaborate with fellow security team members and other departments to coordinate safety efforts and contribute to security briefings and training sessions.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A high school diploma or its equivalent.
• At least one to two years of experience in the security industry.
• Ability to communicate clearly and relate well to others, including a diverse student population.
• Capable of staying composed and making sound decisions in high-pressure situations.
• Detail-focused with sharp observational skills.
• Foundational understanding of security systems and standard operating procedures.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule that includes nights and weekends.
• Physical capability to conduct foot patrols throughout the residence.
