Job Description

Role Overview

This leadership position sits at the commercial heart of a large, conference-focused hotel, where you will own the full sales and marketing engine that drives both top-line revenue and long-term market positioning. Day to day, you will balance strategic planning with hands-on execution: setting targets, coaching your team, courting key corporate clients, and collaborating closely with operations to ensure everything from a boardroom luncheon to a 1,000-delegate conference runs flawlessly. Your work directly determines the hotel's occupancy, banquet revenue, and brand reputation in a highly competitive meetings and events landscape.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement an integrated annual commercial plan that aligns sales, marketing, PR, and revenue management activities with the hotel's occupancy and revenue targets.
  • Personally own the development of high-value corporate accounts, agency partnerships, and strategic alliances, while also steering the team's efforts across leisure, group, and event segments.
  • Build and execute a proactive sales pipeline for the hotel's 16 conference and banquet venues, tracking leads from first enquiry through contracting and post-event follow-up.
  • Set clear performance standards for the sales and marketing team, including individual booking targets, conversion rate benchmarks, and daily activity expectations.
  • Partner with the revenue management function to shape pricing strategies, inventory allocation, and demand forecasting for both transient and group business.
  • Coordinate closely with the Food & Beverage and Operations teams to design competitive event packages, confirm logistical details, and ensure seamless on-site delivery.
  • Oversee all brand-building activity, including social media content, public relations outreach, digital campaigns, and promotional offers, ensuring a consistent voice across channels.
  • Track competitor activity, market trends, and campaign performance; use these insights to adjust strategies and build monthly commercial reports for senior stakeholders.
  • Manage contract negotiations, credit terms, and payment follow-ups in partnership with the finance department to protect revenue and minimise receivables risk.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Sales, Marketing, Hospitality Management, or Business Administration.
  • 5–8 years of progressive hotel sales and marketing experience, with at least 2–3 years in a department head or director-level role.
  • A demonstrable history of exceeding revenue targets in corporate sales and events, with specific experience managing large MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions) business.
  • Strong commercial acumen in hotel revenue management, including familiarity with demand forecasting, rate positioning, and inventory control.
  • Hands-on proficiency with CRM systems, digital marketing tools, and social media management platforms.
  • Excellent negotiation, networking, and presentation skills, plus a proven ability to motivate and develop a diverse commercial team.
  • Previous experience in a conference-heavy hotel or large resort with multiple function spaces is strongly preferred.

What We Offer / Why Join

This is a high-visibility role within a major hotel operation, offering the chance to shape the commercial direction of a substantial events business. You will lead a multidisciplinary team, work directly with senior ownership and operations leadership, and have the autonomy to implement your own strategic vision. The position is ideal for a commercial leader who thrives on the pace of conference sales and wants to make a measurable impact on revenue performance and brand growth.
