Job Description

Role Overview

You will be the operational backbone of our health, safety, and environmental programme, ensuring every LPG distribution site runs with zero harm to people and minimal impact on the planet. Day to day, you will coordinate risk assessments, safety inductions, emergency response drills, and sustainability projects — translating policy into concrete procedures that teams actually follow. This role matters because the safe, reliable delivery of LPG depends on rigorous HSE oversight, and your work will directly strengthen both our compliance posture and our long-term ESG performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the development, roll-out, and continuous improvement of HSE procedures, work instructions, and record forms across all company installations.
  • Supervise and mentor HSE Assistants and Officers, ensuring they have the skills and tools to implement safe systems of work and environmental protection measures.
  • Ensure full compliance with the organisation’s Environmental, Occupational Safety & Health Policy, as well as statutory regulations including OSHA 2007 and EMCA 1999.
  • Conduct risk assessments to identify hazards, develop corrective action plans, and oversee their implementation to completion.
  • Manage fire safety measures, including policy enforcement, regular inspections, equipment maintenance, and coordinating emergency drills.
  • Deliver safety inductions for all new hires, contractors, visitors, and interns before they begin any task, covering safety, quality, and environmental practices.
  • Maintain accurate HSE documentation — procedures, training records, incident reports, and compliance logs — and analyse safety data to recommend improvements.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for non-conformities, working with relevant teams and ISO coordinators to ensure timely closure.
  • Support the design and implementation of ESG initiatives, including energy efficiency, waste reduction, pollution control, resource conservation, and ethical labour practices.
  • Contribute to budgeting by preparing proposals for the HSE department and managing the approved section budget responsibly.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Environmental Science, Environmental Resource Management, Climate Change, or a closely related field.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in the HSE field, preferably within energy, LPG, or industrial operations.
  • A recognised professional certification such as NEBOSH International Diploma/Certificate, IOSH Managing Safely, or ISO Lead Auditor status.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of sustainability reporting frameworks, including GRI and IFRS, along with familiarity with ISO standards and relevant legislation such as OSHA 2007 and EMCA.
  • Strong practical skills in risk assessment, incident investigation, root-cause analysis, and applying the hierarchy of controls.
  • Experience conducting OSH audits and inspections, plus the ability to develop emergency response and business continuity plans.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the confidence to advise management and mentor junior safety staff.
