Job Description

Role Overview

This position puts a passionate stargazer at the heart of a luxury island resort, where you will design and lead nightly celestial experiences for an international audience. Your work directly shapes the guest journey, transforming a quiet evening into a memorable, educational encounter with the night sky. You will balance hands-on telescope operation, creative programming, and close coordination with resort teams to ensure every astronomy session runs smoothly and delights visitors of all ages.

Key Responsibilities

  • Host and lead evening stargazing sessions, guiding guests through constellations, planets, and seasonal celestial events with clear, engaging storytelling.
  • Tailor each astronomy experience to different audiences, from curious children to seasoned enthusiasts, adjusting depth and pace to match their comfort and interest.
  • Set up, calibrate, and operate telescopes and auxiliary astronomy equipment, performing routine checks and maintenance to guarantee reliable performance.
  • Monitor weather forecasts and astronomical conditions to choose optimal viewing times and adapt planned sessions accordingly.
  • Develop special programming around notable celestial events, including meteor showers, eclipses, and planetary alignments, ensuring the resort offers timely and exciting experiences.
  • Collaborate with Guest Relations, Front Office, and Activities teams to schedule sessions, promote the programme, and integrate astronomy into broader guest offerings.
  • Create supporting materials, such as star charts, welcome notes, or visual guides, that enhance the stargazing experience and build guest anticipation.
  • Propose future equipment upgrades and programme enhancements, helping the resort maintain a standout astronomy offering.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Demonstrated passion for astronomy, with a solid working knowledge of constellations, planetary motion, and celestial phenomena.
  • Hands-on experience operating and maintaining telescopes, including setup, alignment, and troubleshooting common issues.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex astronomical ideas in simple, captivating language.
  • Comfort and confidence interacting with guests from diverse cultural backgrounds, adapting communication styles as needed.
  • Self-motivated and organised, capable of independently managing the astronomy programme from planning through execution.
  • Flexibility to work evening hours, weekends, and occasionally late nights, aligning with guest schedules and optimal stargazing conditions.
  • Creative, proactive approach to developing new experiences and improving existing ones.
  • Prior experience in hospitality, tourism, education, or public outreach is considered a strong advantage.
