Role Overview
This position sits within the Institutional Banking team at a microfinance bank, focused on the religious sector and the wider church ecosystem. You will shape, launch, and manage product propositions that go beyond simple loans or deposits to solve real operational and financial problems for parish communities, church institutions, and their members. Day to day, you will balance product development with hands-on business development — prospecting new institutional clients, strengthening relationships with existing ones, monitoring portfolio quality, and leading a team to meet revenue and customer satisfaction targets. Your work directly supports the bank’s mission of delivering relevant, accessible financial solutions while ensuring sustainable loan book performance and measurable customer value.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and drive product propositions tailored to Caritas Microfinance Bank customers and the religious/institutional ecosystem, managing each product’s performance across its full lifecycle.
- Prospect, acquire, and nurture new institutional customers within the assigned religious sector, closing lending and banking business through a structured sales approach.
- Maintain proactive relationships with existing clients — scheduling regular visits, tracking application progress, resolving service issues, and communicating decisions transparently.
- Lead, motivate, and coach team members, setting clear productivity targets, reviewing daily and weekly results, and building the skills needed to exceed organisational goals.
- Monitor the quality of the loan book by keeping portfolio-at-risk within agreed limits, chasing arrears on normal and watch accounts, and processing renewals, extensions, and cancellations before expiry.
- Conduct needs analyses with customers to recommend appropriate accounts and lending products, disclosing all terms on accreditation, repayments, service fees, and commissions.
- Own the credit review cycle for existing facilities — ensuring timely, thorough, and consistent assessment of each customer’s financial position and risk profile.
- Drive cross-selling of the full range of bank services while collecting market intelligence on competitor products, client service gaps, and emerging needs in the sector.
- Maintain accurate client databases and customer records, oversee proper documentation for all portfolio accounts, and identify or escalate any signs of fraud, misconduct, or undue risk exposure.
- Strengthen internal collaboration with marketing units and head-office departments, and represent the bank in relevant customer and partner forums to keep the institution visible and aligned.
- Train and onboard both new and existing clients on product usage, policies, and digital or manual banking procedures to encourage adoption and reduce avoidable queries.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in a business-related discipline; additional professional banking qualifications such as AKIB certificates are an advantage.
- At least four years of experience in banking, with a minimum of two years specifically in business development, personal banking, or customer relationship management.
- Thorough, practical knowledge of MSME banking products, lending policies, credit risk principles, and prudential guidelines governing microfinance institutions.
- Proven ability to lead a team and deliver business results through others — including coaching, target setting, and performance management.
- Strong sales and negotiation skills, with the confidence to interface with church leaders, institutional decision-makers, and high-value individuals.
- Excellent administrative, communication, and interpersonal skills, paired with strong organisation and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
- A self-driven, customer-focused mindset with a demonstrated ability to build relationships, gather market intelligence, and handle sensitive situations with integrity and professionalism.
