Job Description

Role Overview

This role is responsible for driving the bank's revenue by building and managing relationships with government agencies and public sector entities. Day to day, you will market the bank's products and services to these clients, identify trade finance opportunities across African markets where the bank operates, and ensure that public sector customers receive tailored advice and service. Your work directly supports the bank's strategic growth in the public sector segment and strengthens its position in regional trade.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute annual marketing plans and budgets for the public sector unit, setting targets for deposit growth, trade revenue, and client acquisition.
  • Manage a portfolio of public sector relationships, acting as the primary contact for all their banking needs to maximise retention and satisfaction.
  • Identify and pursue trade finance opportunities – including import and export financing – for clients operating across multiple African countries, working with multinationals and large corporations.
  • Conduct regular market research and competitor analysis within the public sector to design sales strategies that give the bank a competitive edge.
  • Monitor and control the unit's income and expenditure, ensuring profitability while recommending new risk assets that align with the bank's lending criteria.
  • Collaborate with the new product development team to create or adapt product offerings – such as tailored deposit and investment solutions – for government parastatals and public agencies.
  • Proactively maintain a pipeline of regional trade deals, updating generic trade product programs and coordinating with country heads to ensure consistent delivery.
  • Establish and track service-level metrics to measure performance and continuously improve the client experience.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline; an MBA, Master's degree, or equivalent postgraduate qualification is required.
  • At least 10 years of relevant banking experience, with a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory or management capacity.
  • Professional certifications in banking, customer relationship management, or sales and marketing are highly valued.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) for reporting and presentations.
  • Deep understanding of public sector banking dynamics, government procurement processes, and trade finance instruments.
  • Proven ability to build networks with senior government officials and parastatal executives.
  • Excellent analytical skills for market research, competitor benchmarking, and budget management.
