Role Overview
You will act as the bank’s main ambassador for a portfolio of large corporate and institutional clients, focusing on deepening existing relationships while actively hunting for new business. Your daily work involves understanding each client's financial landscape, spotting opportunities for lending, trade finance, and cash management, and ensuring the bank remains their preferred partner. The role directly influences the bank’s revenue growth and market position, so your ability to build trust and negotiate complex deals is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain senior-level relationships with corporate clients, identifying ways to increase the bank’s share of their business and maximise total relationship value.
- Actively prospect for new corporate accounts, with particular focus on government entities, parastatals, and large private-sector firms, including their suppliers and distribution networks.
- Craft tailored value propositions for each client, combining cheap deposits, quality assets, fee-based services, and ecosystem-wide banking solutions to win deals.
- Map each client's key decision-makers and influencers to stay abreast of their strategic plans, upcoming projects, and potential risks that could affect their financial health.
- Conduct deep research into client industries, operational practices, and market conditions to anticipate needs and spot early warning signs of credit deterioration.
- Coordinate with product specialists to design and present complex solutions involving trade finance, corporate lending, treasury, and digital banking services.
- Monitor all client touchpoints to ensure exceptional service delivery, while also building a pipeline of qualified leads through structured account plans, call reports, and deal tracking.
- Keep a close watch on market developments, regulatory changes, and competitor activity to recommend proactive adjustments to client strategies and internal processes.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Marketing, or a related discipline from an accredited university.
- At least three years of hands-on experience as a relationship manager serving corporate or institutional clients, with a proven track record of growing portfolios.
- Working knowledge of the full range of bank products, including emerging digital offerings, plus a solid grasp of trade finance mechanics and corporate lending procedures.
- Demonstrated experience lending to state-owned enterprises or public sector institutions is strongly preferred.
- Ability to assess credit risk across diverse industries, understanding both business-specific and macro-economic drivers that affect repayment capacity.
- Strong analytical and presentation skills, with experience preparing credit papers, responding to requests for proposals, and pitching solutions to executive audiences.
- Familiarity with operational risk controls, service quality standards, and the regulatory environment governing financial institutions and professional bodies.
