Job Description

Role Overview

This clinical officer position places you at the centre of day-to-day patient care within a busy hospital environment. You will assess, treat, and monitor patients across a range of medical cases, respond to urgent situations as they arise, and act as a reliable bridge between patients, families, and the wider clinical team. Your work directly supports patient safety, continuity of care, and the smooth operation of the hospital's medical services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out thorough patient assessments, including taking medical histories, conducting physical examinations, and reviewing relevant symptoms before deciding on a course of action.
  • Develop and document a clear care plan for every patient, covering diagnosis, treatment, prescribed medications, and any necessary follow-up or referral.
  • Respond promptly to medical emergencies within the hospital, providing immediate stabilisation and treatment while coordinating with other clinical staff.
  • Manage medication-related requests, including prescription refills and adjustments, while ensuring accurate recording of allergies and current prescriptions.
  • Educate patients and their families about diagnoses, treatment options, medication use, and at-home care instructions to support recovery and prevent complications.
  • Supervise patient care during hospital stays, monitoring progress, reviewing test results, and adjusting treatment plans in collaboration with physicians and nurses.
  • Remain accessible to patients for questions and updates, explaining their condition and care journey in clear and compassionate terms.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery from a recognised institution.
  • Current registration as a Clinical Officer with the Clinical Officer Council.
  • Valid and up-to-date practice license to work as a Clinical Officer.
  • At least two years of hands-on clinical experience in a busy hospital setting, with demonstrated competence in patient evaluation and management.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including electronic medical records and basic office software.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively under pressure and within a multidisciplinary team.
