Job Title: Male Engagement Officer
Position Purpose
To design and implement gender-transformative male engagement strategies that address root causes of gender-based violence, promote sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), and strengthen the role of boys and men as accountable partners in advancing gender equality and women’s rights.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Programme Integration
- Integrate male engagement approaches into MTG’s football leagues, community forums, and safe spaces
SRHR Education & Behavior Change
- Develop and deliver male-focused SRHR sessions covering consent, healthy relationships, contraception, and shared responsibility
- Promote understanding of men’s roles in advancing SRHR rights and choices for all
- Address stigma and barriers that limit male participation in SRHR
GBV Prevention & Safeguarding
- Lead community-based GBV prevention initiatives targeting men and boys
- Promote accountability, non-violence, and respectful relationships
- Strengthen safeguarding awareness among male participants, coaches, and community influencers
Male Champions & Community Engagement
- Identify, train, and mentor male champions (coaches, fathers, youth leaders, local influencers)
- Facilitate peer-to-peer engagement targeting men in their social spaces
- Support community dialogue platforms that promote shared responsibility in gender equality
Partnership & Stakeholder Engagement
- Represent MTG in local and national forums on male engagement, SRHR, and GBV
- Build partnerships with community leaders, government actors, and peer organizations
- Strengthen linkages between male engagement initiatives and existing SRHR/GBV structures
Monitoring & Evaluation
- Track male participation in SRHR decision-making
- Monitor reduction in harmful practices and GBV risk factors
- Document case studies, lessons learned, and impact stories
Reporting
- Prepare timely and high-quality weekly, monthly, and donor reports
- Contribute to programme strategy through evidence-based insights
- Support development of communication materials showcasing impact
Qualifications & Competencies
Education
Degree in Social Sciences, Project Management, Development Studies, or Gender Studies.
Key Competencies
- Experience: Minimum 2 years in a similar position/sector
- Strong understanding of gender-transformative approaches and feminist principles
- Proven experience in community engagement and behaviour change programming
- Excellent facilitation skills with diverse groups (youth, men, community leaders)
- Knowledge of SRHR, GBV prevention, and safeguarding frameworks
- Ability to influence attitudes and challenge social norms respectfully
- Strong documentation, reporting, and partnership-building skills
