Role Overview
This role is responsible for the day-to-day coordination of donor-funded conservation projects within Kenya, ensuring activities are delivered on time, on budget, and in line with donor requirements. The coordinator acts as the central link between project teams, implementing partners, government agencies, and community stakeholders, managing work plans, budgets, and reporting processes. Success in this position directly supports the organisation’s ability to achieve measurable environmental and social outcomes across multiple concurrent initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed annual and quarterly work plans, track implementation progress against milestones, and adjust schedules as needed to keep projects on course.
- Coordinate project activities—including workshops, field missions, and stakeholder consultations—by liaising with partners, consultants, and service providers.
- Monitor project budgets and expenditures in collaboration with the finance team, prepare forecasts, verify costs, and support donor financial reporting.
- Maintain performance trackers, compile quarterly and annual progress reports, and coordinate reporting inputs from implementing partners to meet donor deadlines.
- Document project achievements, lessons learned, and case studies; keep organised, audit-ready project files and risk registers.
- Support resource mobilisation by providing implementation insights for concept notes and proposals, and by helping to organise donor visits and project missions.
- Facilitate communication across the Kenya portfolio, ensuring action trackers are updated and agreed follow‑ups are completed.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Water Resources Management, Conservation, Geography, or a closely related field. A Master’s degree is an advantage.
- Minimum 4–5 years of experience coordinating donor‑funded development or conservation projects, ideally in a multi‑stakeholder environment.
- Proven experience in project planning, budgeting, and reporting, including work with government institutions and community organisations.
- Familiarity with procurement and contract management processes, and experience working with international NGOs is desirable.
- Strong technical competencies in project coordination, budget monitoring, report writing, stakeholder engagement, and problem‑solving.
- Highly organised, detail‑oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while working both independently and collaboratively.
- Willingness to travel extensively within Kenya and to work in an office‑based environment with regular field missions.
