Job Description

Role Overview

As Project Coordinator for the VIP SU inclusive eye, ear and hearing care programme at AGC Tenwek Hospital, you will be the operational anchor that turns project plans into delivered services — organising screenings and treatment at community, school and health facility level, moving patients through referral pathways to specialist care and surgery, and keeping every activity aligned with donor and hospital standards. Much of the work happens in the field and in partnership with county and sub-county structures, so the role directly determines whether people with disabilities and other vulnerable groups actually receive accessible, safe and respectful care. You will also carry the programme's accountability load: budgets, documentation, safeguarding, risk reporting and the evidence needed to sustain and grow the intervention.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and run the schedule of community, school and facility-based eye, ear and hearing screening and treatment activities, working with health facilities and community structures to reach target populations.
  • Coordinate patient referral journeys to specialist care and surgical services, and hold the work to recognised clinical and programme standards, guidelines and protocols.
  • Convene and support the full cycle of project review and oversight forums — County and Sub-County Technical Working Group meetings on eye, ear and hearing care, monitoring and support supervision visits, internal staff reviews and data audits.
  • Build the project training calendar and manage the delivery of every training the project undertakes, from participant identification and facilitation through to follow-up.
  • Engage continuously with stakeholders, including organisations and representatives of persons with disabilities, county government, donors, health facilities, community structures and implementing partners, to keep the programme inclusive and coordinated.
  • Ensure every activity venue is accessible, safe, inclusive and appropriate for participants with disabilities and other vulnerable groups, and arrange team travel and logistics — transport, accommodation, meeting venues and reservations.
  • Uphold beneficiary rights and safeguarding standards, with particular attention to children and vulnerable adults; respond to, document and report any abuse, exploitation, discrimination or intimidation without delay.
  • Work with the M&E Officer to produce activity work plans and budget projections, prepare payment requisitions and maintain complete, donor-compliant financial documentation in line with AGC Tenwek Hospital policies, while tracking expenditure and budget use for each activity.
  • Maintain the project risk register, escalate new or realised risks to the Program Manager and follow through on agreed mitigation measures.
  • Lead documentation and sharing of best practices and human-interest stories, contribute to research and evidence generation, and support presentation of findings at conferences, workshops and professional forums; also contribute to resource mobilisation and the development of funding proposals.
  • Take on other project assignments as they arise.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A degree in Social Sciences, Public Health or a related field, or equivalent practical experience implementing inclusive eye, ear and hearing care projects.
  • At least three years working within donor-funded programmes, ideally in health, disability inclusion or community outreach.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, facilitation and presentation skills, with working proficiency in Microsoft Office and in project or data management systems.
  • Willingness and ability to work extensively in the field and travel regularly to project implementation sites.
  • Sound understanding of inclusive programming, disability inclusion, safeguarding and protection principles.
  • Proven ability to build and sustain effective working relationships with county government, donors, health facilities, community structures and implementing partners.
