Job Description

Role Overview

This position leads the physiotherapy department by overseeing daily operations, ensuring patient care meets established standards, and driving continuous improvement across clinical and administrative functions. The role is central to aligning the department’s goals with the hospital’s broader strategic plan, balancing quality care with fiscal responsibility, and fostering a motivated, competent team. Day-to-day responsibilities range from supervising therapy staff and managing budgets to developing policies that ensure regulatory compliance and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain high standards of patient care throughout the department, intervening as needed to uphold quality outcomes.
  • Provide direct leadership, supervision, and mentorship to physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and support staff, including duty allocation and performance management.
  • Develop and implement departmental policies, procedures, and systems to ensure efficient service delivery and adherence to professional ethical standards.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Medical Services to prepare realistic budget estimates and ensure disciplined spending that aligns with approved financial plans.
  • Oversee inventory management, including stock movement, revenue capture, and timely procurement of consumables and equipment in coordination with the procurement unit.
  • Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly statistical reports to the medical records section for performance tracking and decision-making.
  • Represent the department and the institution in matters related to physiotherapy practice, including participation in quality improvement initiatives and regulatory compliance efforts.
  • Communicate hospital strategy and objectives to departmental staff, ensuring understanding and compliance, while also representing staff concerns to management through proper channels.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy; a Master’s degree is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of five years of experience as a team leader in a clinical or rehabilitation setting.
  • Current registration and licensure with the Physiotherapy Council of Kenya.
  • Proven supervisory experience, including staff development and performance evaluation.
  • Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy in reporting, budgeting, and record-keeping.
