Pharmaceutical Technologist (Pharm Tech)

Role Overview

The Pharmaceutical Technologist supports the daily operation of a retail or hospital pharmacy, preparing prescription and over-the-counter medicines for safe, accurate supply. The role also helps patients understand how to use their medicines and keeps stock and records in order, contributing to dependable care and Pharmacy and Poisons Board compliance across the assigned branch.

Key Responsibilities

• Review prescriptions and dispense medicines accurately in line with prescriber instructions and established dispensing procedures.
• Explain dosage, timing, administration, possible side effects and storage requirements to patients in clear, considerate language.
• Respond to patient queries professionally while protecting confidential health information.
• Check medicine availability, monitor stock levels and reorder points, and record deliveries and stock movements.
• Inspect products for expiry dates and damage, maintain appropriate storage conditions, and document returns or losses.
• Maintain dispensing registers, prescription records and controlled-medicine documentation as required.
• Follow Pharmacy and Poisons Board requirements and support internal reviews, health audits and regulatory inspections.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognised institution.
• Current registration and a valid practising licence from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
• At least one year of practical experience in a hospital or retail pharmacy.
• Working knowledge of medicine classifications, drug interactions and safe dispensing practices.
• Strong attention to detail, sound judgement and clear, empathetic communication skills.
• Availability for full-time, on-site work at a branch in Thika Road, Ngong, Syokimau, Lavington or Mombasa.
