Job Description

Role Overview

This position takes ownership of the CIC Pharmacy retail network end to end — scouting and opening new outlets, then keeping every existing branch compliant, well-stocked and commercially healthy. The day-to-day work moves between expansion projects (site selection, licensing, hiring, supplier agreements) and the steady rhythm of running a multi-branch operation, including dispensing standards, stock control and people leadership. Because the network is a direct point of contact for patients and partner programmes, how well this role performs shapes the reliability and reputation of CIC's wider healthcare offering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Expansion and licensing: identify and evaluate viable locations for new pharmacy outlets, secure the licences and approvals needed to trade, and track renewal dates so no branch or permit lapses.
  • Procurement and stakeholder relations: source and negotiate product supply, contract with wholesalers and retailers, and maintain constructive, ongoing relationships with customers, regulators and suppliers.
  • Dispensing governance: set and enforce policies covering accuracy and appropriateness of dispensing, keep practice within legal and ethical bounds, and provide technical review and support on prescriptions and related claims.
  • Team leadership and development: recruit, induct, roster, supervise and appraise pharmacists, technicians and support staff across branches, mentor junior colleagues, uphold professional conduct, and keep your own clinical knowledge current through continuing education.
  • Multi-branch operations and customer experience: standardise dispensing, stock handling and service procedures, monitor workflow efficiency, resolve operational bottlenecks, and make sure every branch delivers a welcoming, consistently high-quality experience — including resolving queries about medication availability, insurance and refills.
  • Inventory and financial control: manage pharmaceutical stock to avoid shortages and overstocking, oversee ordering and restocking, run regular storage and handling audits, prepare the departmental budget each year, keep resource use efficient, and follow up on debtors.
  • Wellness programmes and clinical collaboration: coordinate CIC wellness initiatives and the CDM programme, ensure drugs are delivered on time, and work with service providers and prescribers to clarify medication issues and optimise patient care.
  • Compliance, audit and reporting: keep all branches and staff properly licensed and documented, adhere strictly to internal policies and external legislation, prepare for inspections and audits, meet the standards required for a "good" internal and external audit rating, escalate risk matters through the defined channels, and communicate policy updates and performance reviews to branch managers.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from an institution recognised by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
  • Active registration with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, including a valid practising licence.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a comparable pharmacy management role.
  • Demonstrated ability to run a chain of pharmacy stores, including opening new outlets and bringing them to operational standard.
  • Strong management skills — supervising, scheduling, appraising and mentoring multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proven relationship management with suppliers, regulators and customers, and comfort negotiating and contracting with wholesalers and retailers.
  • Strategic thinker able to weigh location, market and service opportunities and turn them into practical expansion or improvement plans.
  • Working knowledge of pharmacy law, PPB requirements, ethical dispensing standards, and audit and risk management expectations.
  • Able to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment, and to handle departmental budgets and debtor follow-up responsibly.
